The layered images in this work began by working out a pattern of eight inch squares. I had printed and hand painted fabrics that suggested to me areas of water and areas of rock. After stitching the composition together, I stenciled the shapes of large rocks and falling rain.
I am interested in the contrast between the emotional longing for nourishment with the experience of being quenched. An underlying rhythmic tension is created between the organic rock and rain forms against the pattern of the squares.
Images are created with acrylic paint. Collage and stitched construction. Mounted on a 1/4" birch panel with wrapped edges and framed from the back. The work floats with a clean-edge appearance 2" from the wall.
