(ARTWORK DETAIL. FULL ARTWORK: PREVIOUS)
This work was created collaboratively with artist John Lewis. It is part of the SAQA exhibit "Piecing Together a Changing Planet," traveling to US National Parks through 2017.
Inspired by Hieronymous Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights" (c.1504) we depict the End of Eden. Once, water was abundant and the earth pristine. As the water flows down, in ever decreasing amounts, it passes imagery on the causes and results of global warming, You'll see some of the same skewering of contemporary politicians and societal behaviors that Bosch used in his original work. The imagery is complex and detailed. Just like the issue of global warming.
In the beginning was the water, then mankind, then...?
